A Study on relation of the national alcohol consumption and mortality

Abstract
|

|
The purpose of this study was to analyse relation of the national alcohol consumption and mortality. Data used in the national alcohol consumption and mortality were obtained from ’International Statistics Yearbook of 2001’ published by National Statistical Office of Korea.
The major findings are as follows:
First, there are many kind of causes of death that ’malignant neoplasm of trachea, bronchus and lung’, ’disease of the digestive system’, ’disease of the liver’, ’hypertensive diseases’, and ’cerebrovascular disease’ are positive correlation between alcohol consumption and mortality.
Second, there are many kind of causes of death that ’ischaemic heart disease’, ’diseases of the circulatory system’, ’ extra causes of mortality’, and ’intentional self-harm’ have the shape of J-curve between alcohol consumption and mortality.
Third, there are many kind of causes of death that ’diseases of the respiratory system’ and ’pneumonia’ have negative correlation or the shape of U-curve.
